The UK-Russia Climate Change Collaboration Project is a three-year project funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office's (FCO) Strategic Programme Fund. One of the aims of the Strategic Programme Fund is to 'promote a low carbon, high growth, global economy.' The UK-Russia Project is one of many projects funded by the FCO to help achieve this aim.
One of the main purposes of the UK-Russia Project is to build the relationship between British and Russian climate scientists and give them an opportunity to engage in collaborative research that improves the understanding of aspects of climate change that are important to both countries. The main activities being undertaken within this project include:
- A review of existing climate science research for the UK and Russia, focusing the impacts of climate change that are relevant to both countries;
- A study of the links between science and policy-making, in order to better understand the relationship between climate policy and climate research;
- A collaborative research project between the State Hydrological Institute and the UK Meteorological Office to explore the issue of soil-carbon balance and sustainability under climate change;
- The development of this project website (www.uk-russia-ccproject.info);
- A series of workshops to help raise awareness of the project and gain insight from other scientists working in this field.
Further information on these activities is available on this project website.
