Joint Research Programme

One of the main aims of the UK-Russia Climate Change Collaboration Project was to build and strengthen relationships between British and Russian climate scientists. A key element of the project through which this was achieved was the opportunity to engage in joint program of research aimed at improving understanding of aspects of climate change that are important to both countries.

A shortlist of topics and proposals were collected from partner organisations and a decision was made to explore the issue of permafrost, soil-carbon balance and sustainability under climate change. The joint programme of scientific research was conducted by the Met Office Hadley Centre (Exeter, UK) and the State Hydrological Centre (St Petersburg, Russia). This work began in Dec 2008 and was concluded in August 2010.

The research team summarised their work, findings and conclusions in two final reports (a full report and a summary report); these are available in English and Russian at the links below.
