NEW! Research Programme Final Report
Permafrost, soil carbon balance and sustainability under climate change
The UK-Russia Climate Change Collaboration research programme, undertaken by a joint team of scientists from the State Hydrological Institute in Russia and the UK Meteorological Office Hadley Centre, has published their final report. This presents the scope of the work, the activities carried out, their findings, and conclusions and recommendations. The full report and summary are available to download (below). The partnership that has been created and built through this work has led to several joint publications and presentations, and has yielded benefits that will be sustained beyond the end of the project.

Research on Science and Policy Linkages
The research on science-policy linkages examined how policy makers in the UK and Russia utilise science and how science can be guided by the needs of future policy, such that data and other 'evidence' become available in a timely manner. The work has helped to increase our understanding of the links between science and policy in both the UK and Russia, including on the mechanisms involved, the stakeholders and their interactions, the different relationships (e.g. institutional, ad hoc, networking activities) that bring together science and policy, and examples of initiatives designed to improve these linkages. Better understanding of the potential barriers and opportunities will enable the practical delivery of more effective dialogue, applied (policy relevant) science and policy making.
A report was produced that summarises the results of the work and provides information and practical examples of how science is, or could be, used to inform and underpin evidence-based policy.
The report consists of an overview of the evidence gathered through the course of the project work including a summary of the UK and Russia literature reviews; two case studies (one from the UK and one from Russia) focusing on a practical example of how science and policy are linked, and summaries of interviews with a number of stakeholders (mainly in Russia but also in UK). Key learning points were distilled from the evidence collected, conclusions drawn and a series of recommendations developed. A number of Appendices provide additional detail to support key sections of the report.
